No revenge, no victory, no nothin’ except these notes.

April 5, 2008

Another loss today to the Devil-less Rays.  In five games, the Yankees have scored 15 runs despite several big opportunities.  As a team, they’re batting poorly, but they’ve faced some good very good pitching.  There is hope for the rest of the series as they’ll face James Shields tomorrow (0-4, 8.58 ERA against NYY) and Jason Hammel (1-1 in 4 starts, 6.41 ERA against NYY).

Red Cross Medical Watch:  GI Joe missed his second game with a respiratory infection and a 103 fever, plus Giambi left the game with tightness in his groin.  That’s an injury bordering on TMI right there.

Pitching wise, the Pettitte dealt 5 innings and gave up only three earned runs.  Poor defense cost him two more, but he pitched well enough to prevent any more damage.  For a first outing, not terrible.  The story thus far in the season has been the bullpen.  Brian Bruney and Ross Ohlendorf pitched two innings a piece and held the Rays to one run on one hit - a blast from Johnny Gomes off of Ohlendorf.  A decided improvement over a certain #21 and a certain guy named Kyle. In other news, Albaladejo was sent packing to Scranton.  I imagine we’ll be seeing him again not too far down the road, along with Scott Patterson.

Defense wise, we’re 5 games in and 2 have featured an E3.  This time it was a throwing error by Duncan which wound up costing two runs.  Duncan failed to make up for it when he grounded out with the bases loaded to end the 8th.  If the Yankees are going to succeed without a solid defensive first baseman, they need to capitalize one those situations.

In local news, its raining in Atlanta.
